Linda, good tips, thanks. From what you've seen, if you do settle with a company, what are the chances they will go along with all requests in writing such as the debt will be considered paid in full/zero balance; it will not be turned over to collection agencies, etc...? And would they really go along with this and let it be over with for a nominal settlement vs. bankrutpcy. One lawyer told me that if I settled, it shouldn't be for more than 30 or 40 cents on the dollar. Just how likely would that be? I had one company tell me they never settle with people under any circumstances.
