In 1996 I refused to pay a Sprint bill that added up to $180. A collection agency took the account and then another took over the account. In 2000, I called both collection agencies to pay the account off. They told me to forget about it and had it removed from my credit report. About five months later it showed up on my credit report with GS owning it. I called them up and agreed to pay half the value. They agreed and I paid. It's still on my credit report. They (GS) sent a letter two weeks ago that states "Please be advised that the account referenced above has been closed and will be deleted from the credit bureau during our next reporting cycle." My question is, I've seen a lot of bad press concerning GS, should I trust them in removing this mark on my credit report? If not, what should I do regarding the letter?
