Does a lawyer have a better chance of getting a good settlement with c.c. companies rather than attempting to do it yourself. I had one lawyer tell me not to settle for less than 30 or 40 cents on the dollar. When I call, they offer me 80 cents, considerably more money and not possible to raise that kind of money. Also, is there a way for a lawyer to get an agreement from the companies that they will accept such amount as payment and agree not to sell the balance to collection agencies and other stipulations? Which looks better on credit reports? Bankruptcy or settlements?
