They're both bad, but with settlements you get the collection agency hell afterwards. A good attorney can negotiate exactly what you want - a settlement, with the account at least deleted, maybe showing paid, zero balance, and agreement not to sell the charged off debt. Not all attorneys are sympathetic with debtors who can't pay, so you will have to look for one, I'm sure. And probably pay him up front (get his agreement in writing also, hehe). Nothing against lawyers - I've got one, but business is business. Linda
