Can they still take me to court if I am paying them?

Back in November, I received a summons, however it was not delivered by a sherriff. It came certified mail, to the wrong apartment number, and I did not sign for it. It said that Asset Acceptance Corp bought by old charged off Citibank account and they are suing me for $2300.00 plus interest. I called them and told them I didn't have the money. They told me I would have to pay them an initial $200 and then $50-75 a month until the debt is satisfied. Several things looked fishy about the summons, especially the person they referred to as their attorney. I tried to look him up and he does not exist. Since then, I sent them $50, and will send them $50 a month, but I cannot afford to give them any more money! I just got another letter the other day from someone who says he is representing Asset Acceptance, and he says it is imperative that I call him to discuss settlement. I'm starting to panic, and am not sure what to do. They sent me some document that looked legal, but I did not sign anything. I don't want to sign anything without a lawyer, but I can't afford one. Help!! Any advice is appreciated.
