Like Linda suggested - read your mortgage contract. Sometimes a mortgage lender will work with you to avoid further delinquency of your past-due mortgage payments. This usually will depend upon the circumstances (i.e. job loss, illness, etc.). They may accept interest only payments for a structured time period - say 3 months for example. This will, however, extend the length of your mortgage. Who you talk to at the bank may make a difference. Speak to someone in authority - not someone low on the totem pole. You might want to check with your state banking commission. And you need to keep all documentation regarding the refusal to accept payment.
