The only reason I began paying the debt is because the original credit holder did verify that the debt had been sold to Gulf State. I had called to work out a deal, unfortunately too late. However, when dealing with my bank and a loan I was attempting to get, I discovered that my credit report reflected that I had paid NO money to the Gulf State account. My bank said that if I got proof I was paying the accounts in question, whether alone or through a credit management service, then we could work out a deal on the loan. Gulf State keeps turning down the credit service and will not send me proof of payment. All of my other debts are now being handled by the credit service except for this one. I started investigating and found a lot of information here and other places regarding their practice. I will start using certified mail as you suggested and btw.. the website you sent, priceless-note deep sarcasm here. I must say with all the people I've dealt with in Gulf State/OSI not one has been nice. Great customer service.
