Your best bet is to sit down with a qualifed bankruptcy lawyer. He/she is much better equipped to deal wit your problem. The lawyer can do an "offer to settle" with binding agreements to your creditors. (by the way, if your "windfall" is from a workman's comp settlement or a pension withdrawal, it is exempt from lien in a judgement) you may want to consider putting your $$ in a "safe haven" like an annuity,exempt from bankruptcy, or paying off your homesteaded mortgage.
