So have you paid G.S. on your own I'm assuming. If you paid by personal check your bank statement should indicate when the check cleared. Hope you have proof. I would cease all payments and also write them a tactful letter they are to cease all communications by phone and that they can only respond by written communication (they hate this - creates a paper trail). Remember - certified, return receipt mail and them as little personnel information as possible. Somewhere down the line you want to be able to document they have violated Federal credit collection statutes.
How old is this debt? If it is 7 years + 180 days they can no longer legally report it to credit bureaus though they do. And be careful with G.S. they illegally re-age debts as well.
You might want to look at some of Linda's letters (search some of these postings and you'll find the website that provides templates) to get an idea on how to draft your letter to suit your needs.
