If you don't want to take bk, I think you should find a good consumer oriented attorney and take him copies of the court documents - the papers that lawyer filed when they sued you. You will have to look for an attorney that will be sympathetic - I've said before that not all of them are, and they will advise you based on their own bias. Perhaps that lawyer will find something in their filing that will make it possible to vacate that judgment. These guys do so much of those at one time, they usually make mistakes that a lawyer can find. Otherwise, you can keep trying to megoitate yourself, but you are makeing a mistake doing it over the phone. They are probably not telling you the truth. They will tell you they'll settle for $xx, so, you pay it, and they will keep right on trying to collect the rest of it. Or sell it to another collection agency, who will then sue you all over again. You just don't have the savvy to negotiate with them over the phone and hold them to it. Nobody does. If you try to megotiate with them, do it all in writing, and don't do anything until you have an agreement in writing. I still think the attorney finding loopholes in their paperwork is the way to go. Linda
