What a creditor/collection agency can do and does are two diffresnt things. You must keep on top of your consumer report to make sure that it is accurate. I would suggest first dispute the information with the applicable credit reopting company/s, second send if the problem persists send a certified letter to the creditor/collection agency advising them of the wrong doing, and demanding a correction within 30 days. If that does not resolve the problem, take it up with a lawyer, or begin to file complaints with the FTC or attorney generals office.
