Another thing that might fly is negotiate to have the account status changed to "paid as agreed", or if they won't do that at least "paid". Also have both original creditor and collection agency remove any charge-off trade lines for the items.

If they agree, BE SURE you get your agreement in writing before sending any funds. Be aware that if you pay a bad debt, the clock starts ticking again on your account. So if it is reported as a derog. and you make a payment or pay it off, the clock will reset and it will be on your credit report an additional seven years from the date you paid.
