"Inquiries" on Credit Report

What impact does "inquiries" have on one's credit rating? How long do they remain on the credit report (CR)? How can an individual get "inquiries" removed from their CR, and what are the obligations and/or
responsibilities of CRAs in removing them from one's CR? Are the CRAs REQUIRED by law to remove "inquiries or does an individual have to compel them to do so? If you challenge "inquiries" shown on your CR with the CRAs, do they have 30-days to investigate and either confirm or delete those you identify as being erroneous? Finally, I have old (10+ years) employers and former addresses on my CR, how do I get the CRAs to remove them from my CR? Thanks in advance for your prompt reply.
