The final turnaround for the medical debt is still happening. I haven't received the final settlement yet, but it is just a formaility. It will either be zero or pennies on the dollar. Sharon Kay Foundation legal team has determined that fraud occured during the processing of the debt onto the credit report. Did you know that in most cases, it is illegal to post medical debt to a credit report? Little known law that they know of.

They are also checking the actual bill, item by item, making sure that it was billed correctly. Any incorrection of the billing makes it fraudulent and subject to punitive damages. I don't know what they found out.

Finally, they found out that my company, marchFIRST (the bastards) NEVER paid the health insurance premiums that I PAID through my pay check last march-april. This caused our insurance to default, unbeknownst to all of us at the company. They have also used this information to resolve the debt.

In tems of payment, I paid $50/$5000 in debt at the time. THere was a total of ~$23,000, so I paid $250. They took $50 up front, and the rest when I could pay it. Make sure to email and ask for a payment plan. They are charging a little more now; thier foundation funds have been lagging since 9/11. I think this is an incredible deal. Just my case alone, their was about 10 hours worth of work put into it by thier legal team. I calculate about $25/hr.
