divorce and debt...

we have huge debt. 40g. My soon to be X is buying a 250G house with his gf right now. I want to go bankrupt, he does not. He wants to force me to sell to pay off the debt.(only half of it cause of equity). Can he buy a house while still married? I am very stressed cause I am afraid of losing my home.
