Fiance's Account - His Ex's Dept

My fiance and I are in the process of buying a house and just received our credit records. Everything seemed to be as we expected except for one thing on each of our records.

Mine was a simple thing...I payed something off and it was still showing...took some time on the phone, but it's taken care of now.

My finace's on the other hand was a doosey! There was an account with Citibank for a card that was opened in his name (not a joint account) and charged up to over $2000. He remembers while he was still married to his ex, but seperated from her, he intercepted several credit cards, some in his name and some joint.

We believe that this is a card that he was not able to intercept and she maxed it out and then never paid on it.

My question is....what can he (we) do to have this taken care of, if anything? We feel that we shouldn't have to pay for this account since he never received the card, any bills, or collection notices. None of the charges are his and he never filled out the application.

Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!
