Validation letters might chase them (or some of them) off without starting alwsuit city, but if you start disputing and sending "cease collections" letter right now, they will start coming out of the woodwork.

They sell these debts over and over, and they all try to collect them. It is the fact that you haven't really done much about it that keeps them from coming after you the way we are describing. Once they see you are trying to clean up your credit, they will, and you will see what we are talking about.

An attorney who specializes in this area knows what they do and can "head them off at the pass." You will have to look for one who is sympathetic to your plight. Many lawyers are not, so if you go looking, don't let that disourage you. Many will tell you there is nothing you can do, blah blah blah. A good one can get the job done. I am in VA, I pay $150 an hour for attorney's fees (that's discounted).
