Do Lawsuits Ever Die?

I signed a personal guarantee for a corporation that has expired and left a debt to a supplier. The date of the debt is 1992. A lawsuit was filed against both the company and me personally in 1993, in the state of Georgia. Interrogatories were requested and I was deposed in 1997. I have verified that no judgements have been issued. My credit rating is clean of lawsuits and judgements. Things appear to be just hanging around. How long can this thing hang around? And are there any time limits or remedies short of writing a large check (which I do not have)? I am aware of the SOL to file a lawsuit, and the SOL for a judgement. But can a lawsuit hang on forever without action?
