Question about BK attorneys -- do you get what you pay for?

Hi all,

After being out of work for a year, I'm now $25k in debt (all unsecured credit cards) and have decided to file for Chapter 7. It should be fairly simple -- I'm single and have no assets other than my car, which is covered under the allowed auto exemption.

A lawyer acquaintance of mine referred me to a local bk attorney. She's very experienced but her fees are steep -- she charges $1100 (which doesn't include the $200 filing fee) in full and up front. That's about double what I've read most people pay. If I decide to hire her, I just need to send her the most recent copies of all my cc bills (or the names and addresses of other creditors) and she fills out the paperwork, except for the stuff I have to fill out and sign myself, of course. She'd also attend the meeting of the creditors with me, etc.

Here's my question -- when it comes to bk attorneys, do you get what you pay for? I'd rather pay $1100 and know it's being done right and that I'm getting good, personalized service, as opposed to hiring someone based only on cost and taking my chances. I've also taken into account that I live in a very expensive city (San Francisco) so attorney fees here are going to be higher than smaller, less urban places. I checked the yellow pages and I'm seeing cheaper rates quoted, but I'm hesitant to try to cut corners on something this important.

Your opinions?

And if you yourself have personal experience with a good bk attorney in the SF/Bay Area, I'd love to get a referral from you.

Thanks so much.
