Validation or C & D

I received a collection notice from Gulf State on a defaulted CC that is approximately 4 years old. The amount they say I owe is under $2000, at least for now. I'm married now and not working at the moment and everything is in my husband's name, so even if they did sue and get a judgement, there's nothing for them to take from me. Should I just C & D them or should I send them or should I go ahead and send them a validation request? Still not positive on the SOL....it's either past or I have 11 years to go yet.
