Am floundering financially myself. Try to call a non-profit credit counselling service. Anyone that charges you money to do your settlement for you is not working in your interest (all puns intended!). You can do this - I personally have reduced my interest rate with First USA by going on the Assist Programme which is only 8% interest. That's lower than Springboard could get me. Call them all up & talk to them.Get a copy of your credit report. Your accounts will get closed - try to call up & request that yourself o/wise it will list on your credit report as "closed at credit grantor's request". I looked at my report & found that my balances are higher than what they were 2 years ago b/c I can't do much more than pay the minimum...and ironically enough, aren't we meant to be enjoying some of the lowest interest rates ever?! Not if you have a citibank visa card - 24%!! Anyway, good luck. there are loads of us out there. you are right to try to avoid bankruptcy. kp
