Why is Credit Counceling frowned upon and Bankruptcy is not

I am trying to pay my bills off with help of a credit counceling service. We want to buy a house but can't due to that and the debt to income ratio. If I filed bankrupcy (the easy way out) I could get a loan tomorrow!, but there is no way I can with me trying to be a man and pay off my bills that I OWE. Anyone????
