Exactly!! The system is broken. They will ruin your life for years to come. They don't care. It is not about your being a "man" or your integrity, or any of those things - it is about getting as much of your money as they can. They don't care, and they use your guilt as their weapon, like putting a gun to your head and robbing you. You will pay for years and the debt will only get larger. They will put multiple entries on your credit report, and then sell the debt to another collection agency who will do the same thing. I always tell people with a conscience (not a bad thing) - if you let them ruin your credit for the next 10 years or so, how are you going to take care of your other obligations? What about your family? If you don't have one now, you will want one in the future, and you will have made irreversible decisions which directly affect your ability to provide for them. Take care of yourself. Later, when your financial matters are settled, donate the appropriate amount (the amount of your debt) to a worthy charity. It will do some good that way, and you will be free of this monster which is out to eat you alive. Linda
