Most collection agencies (this is who these letters are sent to) are unethical, dishonest, and in it for profit (not an evil motive in itself, BTW). Although there are ethical collection people, you will be hard pressed to find one, because there are so many more that are not.

Now considering this fact, and the also the fact that most of them do not have any documentation of the debt other than a computer printout, and often they even have the wrong person - just someone with a similar name, let's say you send them a letter demanding proof the account is yours, specifically "an instrument bearing your signature" - and on the bottom of that you put what they need and do not have - YOUR SIGNATURE.

Now sign your name in nice dark ink, take a pencil, and go over to the nearest window. Place a blank sheet of aper over the paper with your signature, and see how easy it is to trace the signature. Better yet, take that piece of paper with your signature to a good photcopy machine. Imagine using that machine to transfer your signature to another document....

GET IT???????

Don't do it.
