GULF STATE CREDIT (Paying, but getting no credit)

After reading so many postings (all negative) about this co., I'm a little scared. I've been working with CCCS paying off old debts since Aug. 2001. Gulf State Credit is one of the creditors. I've paid $76 / mo. and last week got a letter from Gulf state wanting to settle the account. The balance they showed was approx $500 more than the balance they gave our credit counselor in Aug. I asked the CCCS counselor to find out why and guess what...no one will return her calls. The debt is a charged-off account from Bank One (orig for approx 4,000) Now Gulf State Credit claims I owe them $5,000. I can't get a monthly ststement from them, nor will anyone tell me why they increased my balance by $500. HELP! Any advice will be apprecited. Thanks for listening.
