Asset Acceptance Corporation on credit card debt

Asset Acceptance Corporation bought my $8,000 credit card debt and used an attorney in my state to sue me close to the expiration of the SOL period. The lawsuit is pending. I do not want a judgment against me even though I am basically judgment proof, so I will attempt to negotiate a settlement prior to the court date. Any advice on strategy to deal with the attorney or Asset Acceptance Corporation would be appreciated. Thanks a lot.
