2 CA's trying to collect same account?! How to handle?

I received a collection notice last week from Gulf State and was planning on mailing them a validation letter tomorrow. Today, I get a notice in the mail from some company called CCS Group. They're in Michigan and they're trying to collect on the very same accout as Gulf State! What do I do? Do I just send them both validation letters? How can 2 different CA's try to collect the same account?
