you may want to check the SOL for WA state. Open accounts such as credit cards are 3 years (if this guy told you different he's a liar and just trying to scare you). Written contracts and promissory notes are 6 years (These are things like car payments and mortgages...things where your payments remain the same every month). If it is a credit card debt and you didn't use SOL as your defense when you filed your response to the lawsuit, you can still use it when you appear. The letter they send will help you also. It proves either they don't know what they are doing or their own records aren't straight. You don't need to ask the collection agency for a continuance....you should contact the court. In fact I wouldn't talk to the collection agency any further.
