late payment to credit card company

Our mail was stolen and I did not get my statement. When I finally received a second statement, I was of course overdue. I contacted my credit card company, explained the problem (and attached the Postmaster's letter confirming the stolen mail)and asked for a grace period. (I had missed my due date by only 2 days).The company wrote back, telling me my request was denied. Do I have any other recourse?
