Old checks fall under the Federal reporting statutes - therefore, they cannot be reported after 7 years. For them to do so is in violation of Federal law. Written correspondence sent by certified mail, return receipt is more effective than a phone call - AND - it provides you with documentation proof. With a phone call any CA can deny that you called or enter false information into their database.
