You need to make sure they are authorized to collect these checks. You could end up still owing the money after you've paid. Send them a validation letter - it also asks for proof that they own the account. Really, you would be better off paying the person you wrote the check to, unless it is one of the check approval companies trying to collect. Telecheck and SCAN have a different situation. If it is Telecheck or SCAN it is probably safe to pay them.

Then get your file from Chex systems, so you can clean it up. See my other post for their website URL.

When people get into trouble, they deserve the right to get out. We are all human. Sometimes people can't help what happened, sometimes they were young, or naive, and became unwitting victims of deceptive or predatory practices.

Whatever the reason, no one deserves what they get these days for having financial problems. The system is designed to keep you down forever.
