Are your student loans actually defaults - ?#1? You can work with an ombudsman on this - especially if they are Federal Student Loans. Also, contact the college you attended. And I wouldn't hesitate to write your Congressman about this. What were the reasons for default? After talking with a rep. re: student loans many are requesting deferment because of the economy (i.e., job loss, unemployment, etc.). Don't wait on this.
