I have never heard of Gulf State validating a debt, during the 30 days or after. But for argument's sake, let's say they send you something. If they send you a copy of the contract with you signature on it, and a contract between them and your original creditor as proof that they are now the owners of the debt, and that you owe them the money, and they are licensed to collect in your state. I would say "they gotcha! It's going to be on your report for the next however many years."

Even then there are other things you can do. It isn't a "cut and dried" situation. They might try anything. They don't.

What they are going to do is

1. continue to call you after you dispute the debt - that's a violation.

2. get frustrated when you don't pay and put another entry on your credit report - another violation.

3. maybe call at 6 am on saturday - another violation.

4. when you sent the C&D they will continue to try to collect - another violation.

At any point, if you have all your letters and the green cards from the post office, you go down to small claims court, fill out the paperwork, and have them served. If you have really caught them, and have your proof, their legal department will contact you and say "let's see if we can't work this out..." at that point you can say whatever you want (like ask for money), but most people say "get that off my credit report, and fix it so it never comes back, and I will drop my suit. But I reserve the right to take it up again if you do anything esle to me."

Go read all the Gulf States posts on this board and all the others. You will not ever read a post that says Gulf State actually validated a debt.
