What date determines Statute of Limitations

My state has a 4 year (SOL.) On February 25,1998 I cashed a check for $3,500 that a creditor sent me. I used it to pay down other debts. I never made a payment on the $2,500 check. What is the (SOL)? I was supposed to make a payment the following month, I didn't.. Did the (SOL) start in April or May? Have I passed the (SOL)? Probably not. Did the (SOL) start in April? Experian states: 30 days as of 5-98
Trans Union : closed 05-1998
Eqifax : last payment 05-98 Also I read something about it staying on your report for 7.5 years. Experian reports that this is scheduled to stay on record until 5-2005. Where's the extra months everybody talks about? Thanks Daniel M.
