Thanks to all of you. I am in touch with my attorney, and the collection agencies. One interesting point -- the one bill in collections, I straightened out in '98. I spoke with the insurance company and it was paid (after i submitted it of course, after being contacted by the collection agency and three days on the phone w/the hosp. - you know the drill) anyway, the insurance company called the collection agency 12/1/98 and told them they had paid the hospital. shouldn't it have been taken off then?
well, it wasn't, the collec. agency wanted the cancelled check, the ins. company never sent it, and now it's on my credit report. no one can locate anything because the date of service is from 1996!!
I spoke with the student loan servicing co. for my child and they say all i have to do is get a letter from the coll. agency saying they show it paid (which they do) and they'll put the loan through.

The coll. agency now says they don't have proof. the hosp. says it's too old. and the insur. co. says the checks are on microfiche and it will take @ two months!

Oh, and the ins. co. now tells me they can no longer deal with me regarding my children's bills because (altho we've had no contact w/ex in over 12 years), the ins. is not in my name!!!!!!!

Just shoot me!
