As to moralizing - my version - don't put yourself in the position of learning these lessons twice, LOL. AS if anyone would!!

When you get back on your feet, donate that money you never paid (The real amount, not the inflated amount) to a worthy charity. There are many many people who need it. Collection agencies don't. Once a debt is charged off, YOU CANNOT PAY IT BACK. It is a tax deduction to the creditor. It is sold to a collection agency for pennies on the dollar and they are trying to collect it for a profit. You do not owe them any money. The debt you owed was transferred **to a tax write off,** not to a collection agency.

It's business.
