Sandy, your husband's pay is not in jeopardy. This CA is blowing smoke. They want to scare you into paying. DO NOT TALK TO THEM ON THE PHONE. First thing, send a letter telling them they may only contact you via mail. Send it certified return receipt. You will get a little green card back from the post office. Put it in a safe place, along with a copy of the letter, in case you need it later. Since this debt is so old, that should take care of it. Even if they did try to continue, they do not have a legal leg to stand on, and you do!!! Your husband has a legal officer who could help him with anything of this nature, although I am sure he wouldn't want to have to go to him/her. He really doesn't need to, in this case, since this collection agency is already breaking the law. Hang in there, and do not talk to them. Your fear and embarrassment is the only weapon they really have. The law is on your side. Linda
