If she is being sued for the debt the worse that can happen is a judgement in the creditors favor. $1500 is very small for a debt to come to a lawsuit. Has she actually been served a summons? Importantly...how old is the debt and is she past the statute of limitations for suing? If a judgement is rendered the creditor would need another, separate court appearance to receive a garnishment of wages or a freeze of a checking account. It would give you time to get her name off your checking account (temporarily).
