If they send another letter after receiving your cease communications notice, and you have all your paperwork to prove it, you have caught them in a violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. You can now pass go, and collect your $1,000.

Send them a letter of intent to sue. Or just go down to small claims court and file. When they get your summons, they will probably call you and make an offer.
