Green cards and dates

Okay, I got my green cards back. Thankfully, both have signatures on them. One of them has a half stamped date on it, but you can at least tell that it's March 2002 and that the day itself is before the 10th. The other one has no date at all on it and there are no postmarks on either one of the cards. I still have the receipts from when the letters were sent, but I'm assuming I can't use those dates as proof of reciept, can I? So, question is, if I need to have the dates for proof (hopefully I won't) what do I do? Go to the post office and hope they have them? Boy, you pay for a service and they don't even do it correctly....
