If the debt is not yours and they refused to reinvestigate, did you have any damages? Did you apply for anything and get turned down? Did your current card company raise your interest rate? Maybe yo couldn't get that dream house because of the inaccurate credit report. If this is the case, the attorney should be able to help you figure out how much to sue for.

If you did not incur any damages, then don't use an attorney, just sue for the $1,000 and costs that you can get in small claims.

A lawyer who thinks you have damages will take the case without any money from you.

Attorney's fees can range from $150 an hour on up, depending on where you live and how good the lawyer is.
