I think what WHY CHAT is telling you is that nothing you have done (that you mentioned here) has reeaffirmed or changed the nature of this debt since 1993 - it is past the SOL, and you can tell this guy to get lost. If he tries to sue you anyway, the SOL would be your defense in court.

There are "Collection lawyers" who purchase old debts and then try to collect on them for profit. They fall under the FDCPA just like a collection agency does.
