Once they have deleted the account from your report, you can contact the lender where you applied and were turned down, and request reconsideration. Tell them it was an old debt, it was paid a long time ago, and that Gulf State had attempted to re-age it. Provide your proof if they ask for it.

Don't rely on the automatic process where the CRA will agree to send a new copy of your report to lenders where you applied within the last six months. Lenders routinely ignore those. Call and talk to them. If the rep you get says they can't help you, just hang up and call back until you get one who will. You want to get transferred to a credit analyst who can reconsider your original application.
