Yes, they could, but if it costs too much to validate, it will definitely cost too much to sue you.

If they can't validate, that means they can't prove it's your debt. How can they sue you if they can't prove it's you??

If they do try to bluff, and sue you anyway, your defense would be that you asked them to prove that the debt was yours, and they refused.

Keep all you documentation. This will probably get sold to another collection agency.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. :)
