You might want to get yourself a second opinion on this because attornies can be wrong too, especially if they're not very familiar with this area. I'm not positive, but I'm under the impression that even if a debt-collector purchases a debt, they are still a 3rd party collector and, therefore, still subject to the collection laws. Purchasing the debt does not make them the original creditor. Linda? Why Chat? Any information on this?
