I wish I did some research here before I paid off the Municipal Court for a lame headlight fix-it ticket (I didn't show up for my court date so the ticket went to collections). The initial ticket was from around 1998 ... and after years of interest, the fine went from around $40 to over $500. Years went by .. I never received anything in the mail (although right after it went to collections I did get some calls and spoke to a rep about a payment plan... but I never did anything about it.) When I finally received my most recent statement a few months ago, I figured I would just pay it and get it over with so my license wouldn't be suspended (as was threatened in the letter from the Los Angeles Municipal Court). Ok .. I know I goofed. I wrote a personal check and simply mailed my payment along with their statement. Now I'm sorry I didn't pay with a money order .. sorry I didn't write a "properly worded restrictive endorsement" ... sorry sorry sorry ...

So now that I've spent hours reading about collection agencies and credit reports ...Is it to late for me to do anything about this situation?

Also, I never received any notice of receipt from the Municipal Court. Should I expect something? I now know that I want a paper trail, but I'm not sure what to ask for. Thanks
