I have to agree with DJ. Just say no. If what you say is true, no one can prove anything.

If he gets mean about it, turn the tables on him. Say "how do I know you didn't default on this account, and then try to pin it on me?"

Tell him it's fraud, and you know what to do, but if he won't listen, then it's his problem.

Incidentally, these cases are almost never prosecuted, and if the account was signed up for online, Providian knows your IP address, and they have the IP address of the person who did it. They could track them down in a heartbeat. They just don't.

If it was a signd application, then a copy of the signature should solve the problem. Providian can also get copies of the signatures when purchases were made, but they won't do that either. Nobody will do anything.
