Sometimes, wanting to do the "right thing" and paying off your old debts will put you in a WORSE credit situation than before. If your accounts are so old that you have no recent correspondence from the creditors,they may be getting ready to fall off your credit reports soon. Any payment you make to anyone risks "re-aging" your reports for an additional 7 years.
