I thought once you leave the country, your CC debts are off the hook. I read some posts here about a foreign student defaulted his CC debts and others suggested him not to worried. How do the CC companies know you’re not in the U.S.? How do they know which country you’re in?

I owe CitiBank $20,000, Chase $16,000, Discover $7,000, plus many others. I know CitiBank, Chase, and Discovery have branches in China. How can they find me? We don't have SS# in China. That's got to be at least 100 people have the same name as mine. If I don't apply for any phone/utilities or new credit, or if I change my name, how can they find me? Although they have branches all over the world, don't they operate separately?
