reposed car and buying a house.

Hello.. I have had a problem about 7 years ago with a car payment. The company reposed (6/95) the car and sold it then applied the difference to the loan. I have not paid the amount(about $7000)owed and it is now about coming up to 7 years. I have recently applied for a house loan and the mortgage company told me that I would need to paid off that loan before I could close on the house. The 7 years will be up in June of this year. My question is this. I am already approved for a home loan and have a house that I am looking at. Should I wait until June to try to close on this house or forget about it all together. Thank you
